Otter puts bulk export behind its $20 / seat / month Business plan, and there is no “export everything” button anywhere else. So your own meeting history stays locked in a product you may want to leave.
Otter Exporter pulls all of it out — transcripts, summaries, action items — into plain Markdown, CSV and JSON. It runs entirely in your browser, talks only to your own signed-in session, and never sends your meetings anywhere.
One email when it ships. No newsletter, no tracking pixels, unsubscribe in one click.
These aren’t our complaints. They’re Otter’s own documentation and its users.
“Can I bulk export conversations to Google Drive? No. Bulk exports to Google Drive aren’t supported at this time.”
— Otter.ai Help Center, “Export to Google Drive”
“Can I bulk export multiple conversations? Yes — on our Business and higher plans.”
— Otter.ai Help Center, “Export conversations”
“Otter does not offer a single ‘export everything’ button. … If you have more than 20 conversations worth keeping, scripting this export will save hours.”
— MeetWave, “Best Otter.ai Alternatives in 2026”
“Transcripts export one at a time, which reviewers read as a deliberate exit barrier.”

Sign in to Otter normally. The extension reads only the conversations your own session can already see.

One folder of Markdown files, plus an index.csv and a structured conversations.json. Drop it into Obsidian, Notion, a repo, or cold storage.
If you write Python for a living — honestly, yes. There are several good open-source tools that do this, and they are the best possible proof that the job can be done at all. Here is what every one of them asks of you before it exports a single file:
| Free open-source scripts | Otter Exporter | |
|---|---|---|
| Getting started | Install Python, create a virtualenv, pip install, open a terminal |
Add to your browser |
| Signing in | Type your Otter email and password into a script you found on the internet | Reuses the session you’re already signed in to — we never see your password |
| When Otter changes something | You fix it | We fix it |
| What you end up with | A folder of plain text files | Markdown with speakers and timestamps, plus index.csv and conversations.json |
The first two rows are ten minutes of work for a developer. For everyone else they are a wall — and “everyone else” is the bulk of the people who need their own meeting history back.
We’re not knocking those tools. Independent open-source implementations going back years are the reason we know this is possible at all. They were built by developers, for developers — this one was built for everyone who isn’t.
Your transcripts never leave your computer. The extension has no server. It does not phone home, does not collect analytics, and does not sell anything about you.
It is strictly read-only: it never edits, deletes, or shares a single conversation in your Otter account. It requests the minimum permissions needed — no access to your tabs, history or cookies.
Because you have to run it yourself — and the part most people stop at is handing your Otter email and password to a script you found on the internet. On top of that, free tools break whenever Otter changes something internally, and then the fixing is your unpaid weekend. You are paying once so that none of that is your problem. If none of it bothers you, the free tools are genuinely good and you should use them.
No. Free accounts work, with the same caveat Otter itself has: on the free tier only your most recent conversations are visible, so you can only export what you can see. Pro and Business accounts unlock your full history — and that is exactly where bulk export is blocked today.
The extension makes no changes to your account — no edits, no deletions, no automation of other people’s data. It reads your own conversations through your own session, at a deliberately gentle rate. We publish exactly what it does and keep the code auditable.
As often as you like. Because there is no server, there is nothing to meter. If you re-run an export, files you already downloaded are skipped.
Highlights and comments don’t export cleanly from Otter’s own export either. We capture them where the page exposes them and flag anything we could not read, so you never silently lose a note.
