Privacy Policy

The short version: this extension runs entirely inside your browser, has no server of its own, and never receives a copy of your data.

Last updated: 4 October 2026 · Applies to the Otter Exporter browser extension and this website.

The one-paragraph version

We do not have a server. Otter Exporter is a browser extension that reads your own Otter.ai conversations through your own signed-in session and writes them to a ZIP file on your own disk. Nothing is uploaded, transmitted, logged or sold by us — because there is nowhere for it to go.

We cannot see your transcripts, your meeting titles, your colleagues' names, or even whether you successfully used the extension. That is not a promise about our intentions; it is a description of the architecture.

What the extension does

What the extension does not do

Permissions, and exactly why each one exists

Every permission in the extension's manifest is listed below with its single purpose. If a permission does not appear here, the extension does not request it.

PermissionWhy it is needed
storage Keeps your monthly free-export counter and an optional licence key on your own machine. Nothing is synced to us.
downloads Saves the ZIP file the extension builds to your Downloads folder.
scripting Runs the reader on the Otter page only after you click the extension, so nothing runs in the background uninvited.
activeTab Grants access to the tab you are looking at when you click the extension, without a standing permission over all tabs.
https://otter.ai/* The only site the extension can touch, because Otter.ai is the only site whose data it exports.

Notably not requested: tabs, cookies, history, webRequest, <all_urls>, or any access to sites other than Otter.ai.

Network activity

The extension makes network requests in exactly one direction: to otter.ai, using the session cookie your browser already holds because you are signed in. Those requests are indistinguishable in destination from you clicking through Otter yourself.

When you buy a licence, the payment is processed by a third-party merchant of record (for example Creem or Dodo Payments). They receive your email and payment details directly; we receive only a machine-generated licence key and the fact that a purchase was made. We never see your card number. Their own privacy policies govern that transaction.

If you join the early-access list on this website, we store the email address you typed, and nothing else. You can ask us to delete it at any time and we will, within a few days.

Your control over your data

Children, changes, and contact

This tool is intended for working professionals and is not directed at anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

If this policy changes in a way that affects what data is collected, we will update the date at the top and, if you are on the early-access list, tell you by email before the change takes effect.
